ABSTRACT
As such, the execution of Sam Sharpe, as a result of the rebellion he led in 18311832, serves both as a source and as paradigm for Black theological discourse. In advancing this thesis, attention is given to the meaning of faith, the person of Samuel Sharpe, an overview of some of the major perspectives of the meaning of suffering in Black theology and a discussion on the theological meaning of Sam Sharpe’s execution.
