ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book demonstrates that social movement organizations do not face a simple choice between mobilization and non-governmental organization (NGO-ization). It presents the NGO-ization hypothesis is partially true, not all social movement organizations or activist groups choose to play the funding game. The book concerns the role of social movement activists in challenging the medical model of perinatal care and the authority of medical personnel during child-birth in favor of "child-birth with dignity", which empowers women and enables them to reclaim their authority in relation to child-birth. It explores the Czech Republic, it has been common for women's organizations both feminist and conservative to sit on state committees that deal with family or gender issues; sometimes the relevant ministries recruit activists from these organizations to work for the Ministry.
