ABSTRACT

The maintenance of memory individual or collective that is essentially external to the physical objects where it is embodied can be achieved through a multitude of processes, such as museumification, rituals, commemorations, additions and subtractions. Antkabir, like most monuments, represents and politicizes the past, which in turn shapes the memory of Turks and the identity of the Turkish nation. A phenomenon that exists all throughout Turkey is that buildings used by Mustafa Kemal Atatrk while he was alive, especially houses, have become museums frozen in time at the moment of his visit or stay. The Dolmabahe bedroom has been preserved exactly as it was at the time of Atatrk's death, the rooms of Atatrk houses are also maintained exactly as they were when visited or used by Atatrk. The most significant transformation of Antkabir since its completion has been the changing administration of the monument over the years.
