ABSTRACT

Having considered the first phases of the anorexic career in terms of their position within the social space, the same now remains to be done for the hospital phase. In examining this social space, I will focus on two main areas, leaving other aspects aside, particularly inter-patient variations regarding relationships to hospitalization. I will begin by looking at how the anorexic diagnosis and the opposition between anorexia and bulimia are situated in the social space. And I will then ask the same question about the resistance that certain patients put up to the medical point of view encouraging or forcing them to change and give up their commitment to the career.
