ABSTRACT

Besides summarising the arguments developed in each chapter, the Conclusion elaborates the last argument of the study. It goes back to the seemingly oppositional characterisations of international students as emotionally suffering subjects and ‘bogus’ migrants to demonstrate how those who have named them as objects of national resentment and those who have named them as objects of national compassion share the ‘white fantasy’ that their full social inclusion in Australia can be achieved without troubling the history of structural and symbolic racial inequities over-determining its multicultural composition.
