ABSTRACT

With the previous discussion in mind, this chapter moves to consider the issue of a right to information about genetic heritage within a human rights framework. It notes that the issue of competing interests is also often raised when considering whether a release of information should occur. That is, there is often discussion that the quest for information by donor-conceived people may compete with the interests of donors who wish to remain anonymous. Although this view does not in fact always see reality – as many donors also call for information release and sharing – this chapter considers how to balance respective interests when they do compete.
