ABSTRACT

This volume is concerned with the social contexts of interaction, and related issues

of theory and practice, explanation and justification. Many of the contributions

here are focused on the face-to-face relationships of individuals, as practitioners

with service-users, offenders, clients and so forth. This chapter aims to explore the

same range of issues, but with respect to a different set of problems, concerning the

relationship of different social groups within the specific historical and geographical

context provided by the city of Bradford in West Yorkshire, UK over the past few

years. It thus focuses on the collective dimensions of experience, and deals with

some issues that are directly political.
