ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, various perspectives of drug related litter were presented in order to illustrate conflicting interpretations of what is undoubtedly a politically and emotionally sensitive issue in UK settings. Whereas Chapter 6 prioritised the views of injecting drug users, the following chapter seeks to summarise the lived experiences of frontline service personnel who have been directly affected by discarded injecting paraphernalia during the course of their work. These particular perspectives of street-based injecting drug use have been greatly understated in the literature to date, although some notable exceptions do apply (for example, Parkin 2013, Parkin and Coomber 2009a).
