ABSTRACT

Cambodia's history is written in the language of a great fallen kingdom and the legacy of a more recent genocidal bloodbath in the twentieth century. As the small country struggles to join the world economy it faces hurdles high and wide. In the last 30 years, Cambodia has had one of the most horrendous human rights records in history and its transition, aided by the United Nations, has been marked by continuing repression, political instability, and slow economic development.
