ABSTRACT
A definition of restorative justice from a Samoan perspective encapsulates ‘relationship’ in all its meanings. One of the most significant concepts in the Fa’a Samoa (Samoan Way) is that people conduct their lives according to the unwritten principles of the space between two people ‘va’, which, in its simplest form, means the maintenance of relationships between people, between aiga (extended family), between villages, between districts and, finally, between people themselves. It embraces culture, spirituality, gender arrangements and the healing of relationships.
