ABSTRACT

The spiritual life of the Evangelical has for its aim a life hid with Christ in God'. From its beginning the Evangelical is conscious of definite experiences which are denoted by the terms, Grace, Faith, Assurance, Prayer, and Sanctification, sometimes called Perfection. Grace always acts upon the moral consciousness. In Evangelical Faith it will be found that Love is always an element. It is characteristic evangelical Faith-state that accounts for the confidence with which the Evangelical meets his own sinful behaviour-tendencies. Sanctification is the Protestant and Evangelical conception of spirituality. As long as any branch of the Church holds a derogative estimate of the human organism and its appetites, sin will inevitably tend to be interpreted in biological terms. The psychologist also finds that not a few of the Schisms which have wrought such havoc in the unity of the Church can be traced to psychological rather than theological causes.
