ABSTRACT

Culture is a living organism. As such, it has a double action, a self-development from within and a reception of impacts from outside, which it has to accommodate and make into material for its self-growth. Nothing grows from pure self-development from within, and in isolation. External impacts stimulate the force of self-development. It is only when there is a perpetual traffic of ideas, and perpetual transitions in thought, that newness enters the world.
