ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the artistic case study of min tala, an artist-initiated project that practically functions and unfolds across different Arab countries. In its conceptual and operative design, the project gives specific attention to the relation between creation, production, and education in the field of contemporary dance. min tala is part of a number of corresponding artistic projects in the Arab world, many of which developed during and in the aftermath of the so-called 'Arab Spring'. The first official meeting of min talatook place in Cairo, Egypt, in June 2015, where the performers and directors met in the same physical space and began physical research for their premiere work, If the Sun. The project If the Sun draws on a reference system that stems from and inscribes itself in the everyday, both in the way the project is realized as well as in the development of the aesthetic vocabulary.
