ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses ICD-10-CM compliance, coding and documentation requirements for best practice. It is written from the vantage point of helping students prepare for workforce compliance in coding and documentation. Curriculums teach clinical process and content to students, and internships/ practicums help operationalize the material they have learned. However, students are sometimes very surprised to learn upon entering the workforce that there are regulatory and business processes that govern their day-to-day tasks. Administrators of facilities spend a lot of resources onboarding new staff; therefore, part of this chapter’s objective is to help you prepare your students for tomorrow’s workforce. For schools looking to increase their enrollment rates, preparing students with workforce readiness knowledge and skills is both advantageous and critical.
