A local company may lack the advertising budget to stimulate ticket sales for a concert that is in financial trouble. One of the reasons that promoting concerts has become such a centralized business is that there are more and more large arena venues in existence. Promoters often seek a clause stating that for a specified period of time an act may not play within a certain geographic area. Cancellation policies are set forth in the contract between the promoter and the act. Some contracts give the act or the promoter the right to cancel a concert because of weather conditions. SFX is a powerful dance music promoter that as of this writing in summer 2016 has serious financial problems. Often corporations promote appearances by artists at corporate events. These gigs usually are booked by the company without the use of a promoter.
