ABSTRACT

Huberman (1989, 1993) generated a very helpful model for considering career stages in teachers’ professional work. While this model was developed later by others, including Steffy and Wolfe (2001) and White (2008), their work was largely an elaboration on the three main phases that Huberman proposed. They are as follows:

the novice stage;

the mid-career stage;

the late-career stage.

The principal characteristics of each stage, as summarized by White (2008), are outlined below.
