ABSTRACT

This chapter considers linkages between globalization and internationalization. The planned process of internationalization relies on policy, organization and resources for enactment. Also, there is a general consensus that globalization and internationalization of education are inextricably linked and affected by technology and change. Less attention has been given to globalization and education policy, curriculum and pedagogy. Globalization is also a powerful influence on the structural arrangements and ideologies that dominate life in schools. At the same time, technological advances in a globalized world have the ability to both marginalize and be inclusive. Globalization has been associated with the ascendancy of a market ideology in education over the last three decades, particularly in regard to international education and schooling. The impact of globalization has seen international schools' networks develop into both the product and the process for internationalizing education.
