ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses principles for storage and administration of medicines within the school environment. Medical care technically relates to the work of doctors, who care for an individual using medical knowledge and medical procedures. Medical treatment comprises medicine and surgical/invasive procedures. Some health care professionals provide medical treatment under the guidance of a doctor or if they have had specific training. The chapter also discusses how to develop an individual health care plan. When a child is able to engage with school but requires on-going health care, the health care plan becomes a document that records what will happen at school and the responsibilities of health care professionals, school personnel, the child and others. Information will need to be collated from the child, family and any other health care or other services that are currently involved with this child.
