ABSTRACT

This chapter explores ways to establish effective communication and collaboration with other professionals. Teachers looked to health care professionals to be able to provide them with information about a child's medical and non-medical needs, but a barrier mentioned by many was poor communication and delays in receiving information. Teachers' concerns about delays in getting what they needed and when they needed it from health care professionals led to some describing feelings of powerlessness and those they were failing the children. When a multi-professional care team is set up around the child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, it will therefore be important to allow some time for information sharing about each professional role and to ensure that this understanding is continuously checked and reviewed to ensure that everyone understands the different roles of each practitioner. The local National Health Service (NHS) has a statutory responsibility to provide health care services for its local population.
