ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the ecofeminist-linguistic paradigm called Mother Earth Discourse in the form of a beehive model and the identification of motifs. Folktales convey that Mother Earth is sacred and it is the duty of human beings to respect her. Folktales highlight a circular pattern in terms of themes and techniques. This pattern symbolises the spherical shape of Mother Earth. It denotes a holistic approach to life and emphasises interdependence. Discourse analysis is an analysis of language in use. It is identified as a tool in building up a society by establishing a paradigm that links the environment and woman's voice to form the Mother Earth Discourse. The Mother Earth Discourse, as a symbol of motivation, promises alternative thinking that aids sustainable development and gender equity. Bhoomi Register is a category that arises from the Mother Earth Discourse to recognise the language of people who live close to nature.
