ABSTRACT

As news stories unfold and society seeks to understand the nature and significance of events, is the museum field going to adapt to a greater role in exploring the things that profoundly matter in the world? … Although the number of exhibitions on contemporary subjects is growing, museums would perform a more valuable public service – and uniquely so given their abundance, popularity, trustworthiness and specialized expertise – if they increased attention to the issues that confront their regions and the world, now and into the future.
