ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the historical and theoretical aspects of imaging as manifested in imitating, imagining, and visualizing for constructing, and will relate these to architects' character traits. It expores the qualities of intention and interpretation critical to how architects utilize imaging. The chapter discusses how architects envision the future through the use of imaging, and how the traits of the divino artista assist in this ability to act as a soothsayer. It deals with examples of how architects employ these traits in their design processes. Just as the Muses sang in chorus, there will be no equation of a specific Muse with a particular character trait; rather, the inspiration and creative qualities of the Muses collectively will be considered. The chapter describes how it is in the character of architects to imitate nature and also emulate others. Imitation involves the ability to observe and reproduce.
