ABSTRACT
The law on electronic surveillance has changed drastically over the years. In Olmstead v. United States, the Supreme Court held that wiretapping does not violate the Fourth Amendment if there is no trespass into a constitutionally protected area. This enabled the police to conduct legal wiretaps as long as they did not illegally intrude into a person’s dwelling.
