About the adolescent girl you mention, I don’t understand your reason for suggesting to her that she should contact you after the school holidays, instead of making an appointment right away. Why do this, after the enormous progress you helped her accomplish – that you accomplished together – by making it possible for her to reveal, in the analytic space, the complications of her history and the shame of her symptoms? Your proposal, coming as it does after the disclosures made in the sessions, is in contradiction with what I imagine to be the quality of the relation established between you in the course of these intense encounters.
