ABSTRACT

Why impossible? Based on the doctrine as such, the only requests suitable for psychoanalysis are those that can be treated using the reference points provided by the theory of repression: erotic experience or fantasy; repression; return of the repressed; anxiety; inadequate defence against anxiety; and a symptomatic compromise between anxiety and ego defences. But today it is often the case that defences do not fit this paradigm; moreover, we have the mistaken impression that nothing matters to these individuals. This being so, what type of clinical work could be suitable for these zombies?1
