ABSTRACT

Having a connection with societies, organisations and local photographers in the respective countries that you plan on visiting is indispensable. ere is a network of naturalists who belong to various local natural history groups, which are willing to share information in return for something back. I have been a member of a number of organisations both in the UK and Europe for many years. Most produce reports and journals that have accounts of members’ trips to various locations at home and further a eld. ese are often a mine eld of information. I have built up a network of friends through

correspondence and meetings with many knowledgeable botanists and entomologists who have experience in dierent elds of natural history. Most have travelled widely in Europe and the Mediterranean. ese contacts are important since they can provide information on sites from particular regions and the owering and ight times of dierent species. is kind of information is invaluable.
