ABSTRACT

Winter is the least productive of the four seasons for macro photography, but having said that it’s not entirely devoid of subject material. Grey, overcast skies and lingering cold can dampen the enthusiasm for all but the diehards. e winter months may not have the salubrious feeling that spring brings, but it has its own character and charm. If you can put up with the cold, and the rain doesn’t dampen your fervour, you may be surprised to know that there are many other seasonal subjects worth exploring. By December insect life has all but gone, or those that overwinter have entered hibernation. ere are some moths which are active during this time, but not many. Larger autumn fungi are also over, although brackets and smaller species can persist throughout this period.
