ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book begins with Manuel Vargas's nuanced revisionist position, and then it addressed recent debates concerning responsibility for omissions, the compatibility of rational deliberation with belief in causal determination, experimental philosophy, and, finally, free will and religious issues. It offers a comprehensive introduction to the major contemporary philosophical issues bearing on free will. This book discussed that our preface with a promise to be as even-handed as possible in treating the range of positions, arguments, and topics animating the free will debate. It featured our introduction of the key controversies in the debate and the developments that animate the most recent philosophical work on free will. The book canvassed the various incompatibilist positions together with their problems and prospects. It also addressed a cluster of important issues that they have yet to consider.
