ABSTRACT

The early chapters (2-4) of this book examined the variety of ideas of Asianism and Asia-Pacifi c regionalism, and their competition in developing different regional institutions to achieve different regional inspirations. Chapters 5-7 have also examined different contending norms and two rival regional governance systems (East Asian governance versus Asia-Pacifi c regional governance). In real life, neither Pan-Asianism nor Asia-Pacifi c regionalism has succeeded in achieving its own idea in a pure form. What has taken place is a hybrid outcome.
