ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study of the supervision of neophyte sport and exercise scientists who are training to work in the field of sport psychology through the British Association of Sport & Exercise Science (BASES) supervised experience and accreditation program. It focuses on a collaborative approach to supervision that has been instigated through the Cardiff Met Professional Development Group (CMPDG), based in the UK. The chapter offers both experienced and neophyte supervisors insight into the efficacy of collaborative approaches in helping them to navigate the swampy lowlands of professional practice supervision. The pathway to accreditation for sport and exercises science (SES) practitioners through BASES involves a program of Supervised Experience (SE). The CMPDG has provided a real opportunity for engagement in collaborative approaches to supervision and assisted the authors on their journey as neophyte supervisors. To be permitted to supervise on the BASES SE program, potential supervisors have to be registered by the organization.
