ABSTRACT

As mentioned in the first chapter of this book, there is no formula for applied sport, exercise, and performance psychology (SEPP) practice. There is no equation to be solved; practice requires the ability to artfully apply research and theory from SEPP and other related fields (e.g., counseling, psychology, sport sciences). Further, neophyte practitioners are faced with learning how to effectively translate the knowledge they have gained throughout their education into an understanding of how to put that knowledge to use in applied SEPP practice. Moreover, students and young practitioners not only need to develop professional practice knowledge and experience; learning how to effectively navigate the myriad ethical considerations and potential challenges is also essential (e.g., Moore, 2003).
