ABSTRACT

The priorities of STEM-based learning are the continuous threads that run through planning, teaching, and learning. These priorities provide the instructional perspective about which instructional skills, strategies, and student actions are selected, utilized, and adapted daily for students’ learning and academic growth. These are infused into the lesson by viewing it through the lens of STEM. The lens acts as a checklist to ensure they are included when planning the units of instruction and daily lessons:

◆ 21st Century Skills ◆ Career connections ◆ Global and real-world perspective ◆ Integrating technology ◆ Discourse and student voice ◆ Student choice and autonomy ◆ Giving and receiving feedback ◆ Interdisciplinary perspective ◆ Connecting literacy and authentic sources ◆ Involving the community and stakeholders.
