ABSTRACT

By the end of the First World War, the Arab-speaking Middle East came under the colonial control of Britain and France. Britain had won a larger share of the former Ottoman provinces. For David Fromkin, the establishment of the Allied control of the Middle East has been the major chapter of the modern history and the climax of European hegemony of the rest of the world. 1 Between 1915 and 1917, the allied powers – Britain, France, and Tsarist Russia – came to an agreement on the partition of the post-war Middle East, in which Britain was the major player in the making of Middle East politics.
