ABSTRACT

This book and the associated artifacts arose from an investigation of the pedagogy and the tools required to enable marginalized citizen groups to create their own local voice. In essence, this book documents an investigation into what’s required for citizens to shape their own narratives, in a democratic cyber corridor, to ensure their voice is heard from source through to exposure. Citizens’ ability to engage in that activity is seen as fundamental to principles of democracy. In essence, everyone who picks up a smart device possesses the skills to become a potential journalist. However, for this to occur in any meaningful way, citizens will need a skill set to enable them to use current digital technologies to create a more developed, thought-out and even politicized form of citizen content called user-generated stories (UGS).
