ABSTRACT
Although the United States was one of the major players in establishing human rights institutions and standards, the United States began to remove itself from these processes when these same international standards were then used to challenge forced racial segregation in this country. There is no question that the raw racism depicted in Mississippi Burning violates the US Constitution, but it also violates a host of international human rights standards as well.
