ABSTRACT
We tend to think of human rights as having an upward progression, where ever-increasing numbers of people receive human rights protection. However, retrogression can also occur. Certainly this has been the case for women in Iran following the 1979 Iranian Revolution. This theme is explored in Persepolis (FF-31) and in the haunting film The Circle.
