ABSTRACT
Those at the apex of the social pyramid enjoy a vast reach of power and prestige. They and their hired staffs propagate the iconic figures and narratives that are intended to be revered by the multitude. The Übermensch, the privileged few, lords over the rest of us with something close to impunity. Given their weaker position in the social order, selected victims from the vulnerable multitude may be subjected to all sorts of abuses. Some of these abuses are so shocking as to enjoy the cover of incredulity. That is to say, the general public simply will not believe what they hear.
