ABSTRACT

In any study of water and environmental management problems in the Middle East it is essential to realise from the outset that one is dealing with a wide range of environments rather than with a single and uniform one. 1 While it is obvious that urban areas tend to avoid the most extreme environmental conditions the contrasts which are to be found in the region are considerable.
