ABSTRACT
Common-sense opinion has it that there are such material objects as planets, rocks, tables, chairs, and organisms, all of them wholes or aggregates made up of parts. But belief in such aggregates generates a host of deep metaphysical puzzles, puzzles that have led some theorists to conclude that there are no wholes or aggregates, or if there are, there are vastly fewer than is ordinarily thought.
