ABSTRACT

Future-proofi ng our cities and metro-regions is becoming a major preoccupation for all tiers of government, the communities that live in those cities, and the private and commercial sectors that invest in them. Not a day goes by without news coverage of a city or metro-region being fl ooded, aff ected by a landslide, or hit by a heatwave, drought or strong winds. Many of these events wreak substantial damage to lives, property and infrastructure and increase the transaction costs for all forms of commerce and industry.
