ABSTRACT

Today we recognize that solving the Nexus of Water, Energy and Food is critical to the successful survival of Homo sapiens in the coming decades. The critical resources that sustain our agricultural production – water, energy and land – are increasingly under threat from population growth, climate change and habitat loss or contamination. Unfortunately, our endemic tendency to distance ourselves from overly complex issues means that we are overlooking the most important factor in the debate, the very factor that makes this problem so critical: people. We must remember why it is important to solve the Water Food Energy Nexus. It is not because the planet is at risk, but rather that the ability for nine billion people to live securely and harmoniously on the planet depends entirely upon these essential ingredients for life.
