ABSTRACT

This chapter explores technology enhanced learning in English. It puts forward arguments for using technology in learning and teaching English. The chapter describes specific ways of using technology in the teaching of English. It considers Information and communications technology (ICT) as technology, is an essential component of one everyday lives and is used by most of us both at work and in leisure activities. The chapter aims to get one started on the road to making the best possible use of technology in one English teaching. It uses the word 'technology', which encompasses ICT but allows a broader interpretation in order to avoid confusion with ICT. The chapter mentions the use of electronic texts in the teaching of reading. It offers many of the benefits to individual learners identified. It provides a persuasive argument for utilising technology in all aspects of one work in primary schools. The chapter concludes with a list of useful online resources.
