ABSTRACT
Explicitly or implicitly, many published nursing studies are forms of sociology. Some clearly label themselves as such; others are sociologies in all but name. Almost all nursing publications use concepts that come originally from sociology and/or the social sciences. However, problematically, while sociological ideas course through nurse writing like blood through veins, nurse researchers and scholars rarely engage with or critique social or sociological theory in a sustained or substantive sense.
