ABSTRACT
George Bruce Thompson, the author of this and other songs, was a native of the Aberdeenshire parish of New Deer and a friend of the collector, Gavin Greig, who wrote in 1910 in the Buchan Observer:
Although never hitherto printed, these songs have got about and abroad until I begin to get records of them from singers at a distance. It is well that the versions of them should be correct and I am glad to be able, through the courtesy of the author, to print ‘Sheelicks’ from his own mansucript.
