ABSTRACT

Successfully managing organizational behavior in today's dynamic international environment is a tall order. The challenges associated with managing organizational behavior across national and cultural boundaries are among the most vexing international firms must deal with. On top of facing a dynamic competitive environment when they venture abroad, companies also must cope with management challenges that are unique to international business. On a broader level international managers must be able to grasp foreign cultures and adapt their own behavior accordingly to be effective. A major headache facing international managers is rapid changes in currency values, which can have serious ripple effects across countries. Building an international workforce staffed by open-minded, flexible people who can comfortably operate across multiple cultures and languages takes years. Culture's components and manifestations include everything from values and attitudes to manners, customs, social structure, business practices, communication norms, and even what is considered "good taste".
