ABSTRACT

Some employees acquire power over other employees and the firm itself once the collective they work for has allocated them assets that are both stable and transferable. Therefore, not all financial operator positions are equivalent, whether from a synchronic or diachronic point of view. Heads of trading room have a privileged position in financial trading rooms. Statistical analysis of pay in the finance sector has revealed their rising compensation (Chapter 1). In terms of legitimising the appropriation of profits, heads of trading or heads of sales running a financial products team, and to an even greater extent heads of a trading room, occupy a position akin to a first-tier contractor and original promoters of the activity (Chapter 4), and they can even be seen as “internal entrepreneurs”. Changes in financial organisation have also tended to increase their power to capture profit by concentrating it in their hands.
