ABSTRACT

Postfeminism and Health. Sarah Riley, Adrienne Evans, Martine Robson. Epilogue. The epilogue returns to the novel premise of this book, that postfeminism is an important lens through which to understand women’s health. It outlines the theoretical analytics of the methodology developed to examine this complex issue, highlighting analytics drawn from the work of Foucault, Deleuze and Guattari and Lather. From this work, important threads that interconnect the previous chapters are identified. These orient around how desire to be normal and live a good life is tied to expectations of ‘normal-perfection’, expectations circulated across a range of interpersonal interactions, media and experts. With the outcome that postfeminist healthism is often unhealthy for those of can take it up, while excluding many women from these cultural definitions of ideal femininity. But in considering these concerns, the book finishes with where hopeful directions may emerge.>>
