ABSTRACT

Good producers need to have a nose for what is in the air, circulating among the culture at large; what ideas, themes, concerns, and interest's people have, and they need to be willing to wager that their story will resonate with society. Good producers need to understand story archetypes and structures. The artistic impulse may be inexplicable to the artist, yet there exists a human need to express one that is fulfilled through art. In movies the artistic impulse is also present, either in the mind of a scriptwriter, a director, an actor, or any number of other members of the cast and crew, each of them expressing that impulse at various times and in various ways. Storytelling happens every day, everywhere, and comes in all shapes and sizes. Oral storytelling forces the storyteller's mind to come up with the least amount of words necessary to effectively tell the story.
