ABSTRACT

The best production is a good preproduction. During preproduction good producers listen to their team, take in everyone's perspective on how much can be realistically accomplished each day, and then make an executive decision on the total number of days based on how much money is available. A casting session happens when a producer has a script and posts notices online and through word of mouth that she's looking for actors. Once the production has a location list scouting begins. Essentially, location scouting means getting into a car and driving around. In many ways the opposite of shooting on location, in many ways are similar. Parking is no longer an issue, neither are bathrooms, special insurance riders, availabilty, sound problems, lighting challenges, cast and crew holding areas, and so on. Budgets come in many shapes and sizes. Like movies, some are simple and basic while others are sophisticated and complex.
