ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on informal learning. It provides examples of opportunities to learn by teaching others, both face to face and, above all, in a virtual way, through the technologies of information and knowledge that contemporary society offers. The chapter draws some conclusions for formal education. The use of a certain degree of skill or competence, achieved through personal experience or participation in communities of practice, has often been used as a platform to continue learning through providing support to less skilled persons or those with less experience. Started in 2006 as a multidisciplinary initiative based on collaboration between patients and health professionals, the programme is based on the expert patient (EP), who uses his knowledge of the experience of chronic disease and offers this to others who suffer from the same health problem. The Fundación Secretariado Gitano (FSG) is an intercultural nonprofit organization that provides services for the development of the Roma community in Spain and in Europe.
